The Other War is a photo and video project about young military widows from across the country. Our goal is to create honest and intimate portraits that will stand as a lasting testament to the “other side” of the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

As the project progresses, we plan on bringing this work to the public with a traveling exhibition and publication of a book of the portraits and stories.

I am so honored to be a part of this project. It’s so incredibly important to me that people understand what we have lost when we have lost a servicemember. It’s so easy, if you have the luxury of being able to ignore it, to just push these wars and their cost to the back of your mind. It’s important for everyone to realize that the men and women we have lost, and continue to lose, in these conflicts are people. Their deaths will have lasting effects that are nearly impossible to measure. I miss my husband every single day of my life. Shawn lives on in my heart, but nothing will ever make up for the fact that he is not here to share life with me, like we had planned. Shawn was a brave man – a Marine EOD tech who voluntarily approached IEDs every single day – and he died doing what he loved. I miss him more than words can say, but I could not be more proud.

Gina, it was a pleasure to work with you. You helped me to tell my story about Shawn, as well as the new chapter of my life that has come with moving forward, three and a half years after his death. Thank you for everything.

Ah, to have a funky apartment with trieknts down low and tables with edges. Alas, small people running around all day long prevents that.Great pictures, I really like her sound. Good post.

Great painting. I raelly should start a portrait wall. I have a vintage print with cows room (my office) and a hallway with family B&Ws framed in gold (more or less) frames so far. Now what room could I put up portraits?….Barbara
